One of the things you need to consider when practicing yoga is choosing the right yoga wear. Comfort is the primary consideration when choosing the right clothes for yoga, of course. You have to make sure the clothes you wear allow you to move freely and feel good against your skin so you won’t have to deal with skin irritation. Remember that having the right clothes sets you in the right mood for a yoga session. How do I choose a yoga top?

Remember that some yoga postures place you in an upside-down position. Therefore, your yoga top should not fall in your face when you do these postures.

If you opt for t-shirts as part of your yoga wear, then you should make sure they do not cover the lower part of your body and are not too loose as to become a cause for distraction.

What are the best yoga pants?

Choosing a pair of yoga pants is more difficult than choosing a top. Some pants reach all the way to your ankles, but if you’re not comfortable with this, then you can choose yoga pants that reach only to below your knees.

You should also make sure that the surface and texture of your pants are comfortable against your skin.

Are yoga shorts advisable?

The choice of wearing shorts is largely a matter of preference, but it is generally advisable for those who practice Bikram Yoga, which is done in a heated room. Wearing shorts will help ensure comfort even as the temperature rises.

Take note that choosing the right yoga wear doesn’t mean you have to spend a considerable amount of money. What’s important is that your clothes are comfortable and allows freedom of movement.

Yoga is definitely a great activity for relieving yourself of the day’s stresses. And while it is generally a safe activity, care is still needed to make sure you practice yoga without undue risk for injury. Using a yoga mat may not be a requirement, but it is one of the best ways to make your yoga session a safer one. Here’s why:1. Anti-slippage – Yoga is usually done in stockings or bare feet, which makes it very important to make sure you practice on a non-slip surface. This is where a yoga mat comes in very handy.

2. Spine Protection – Many of the yoga postures have to be done lying on your back and a mat provides a very effective way of cushioning your spine against the hard floor.

3. Sanitation – Again, remember that yoga is usually done in bare feet. A yoga mat can therefore help ensure that your feet are kept clean and that you are protected from bacteria that may otherwise come into contact with your skin.

Dirt and dust on the floor may also cause skin irritation, which makes a mat even more useful when practicing yoga.

So, there you have it: The top three reasons why you should use a yoga mat. While it may not be a requirement for practicing yoga, it is definitely very useful. The best thing is that a good mat doesn’t necessarily cost much.

Many of them sell for under $20, which makes it a good investment, considering the many benefits it has to offer.

There are about 84 yoga asanas or poses, but you really don’t have to do them all. This is especially true if you are a beginner and if you are simply looking for yoga poses you can do at home. In general, yogis are required to follow the sequence of going through relaxation postures, standing postures, supine postures, prone postures, sitting postures, pranayaman, and meditation. Here are some easy poses you can do at home:Relaxation Postures

Relaxation postures include Shava Asana and Bal Asana for relaxation of the mind and body, sitting pose for relaxation to rest while doing sitting exercises, and Yoga Nidra, which lulls most people into a sound sleep.

Standing Postures

These postures include Kona Asana for curing arthritis and joint inflammation, Trikonasana for joint problems and back pain, and Tada Asana for increasing your height.

Supine Postures

These postures include Markat Asana for developing a flexible back, Pawanmukta Asana for relief from gas, Uttanpada Asana for aid in indigestion and other intestinal problems, Padotanasana for enhanced metabolism, and Rotation Asanas for weight loss.

Prone Postures

These yoga asanas include Bhujanga Asana for enhancing facial beauty and developing a flexible spine, Shalabha Asana for aid with abdominal problems, Sarp Asana for fat-burning, and Dhanur Asana for exercising the endocrine glands, abdomen, and spine.

Sitting Postures

These postures include Kamarchakrasana for weight loss and lower back flexibility, Janushirasana for backbone flexibility, Yoga Mudra for beauty and youthfulness, Mandukasana to cure diabetes, and Ushtra Asana for aid with neck, shoulder, and spine disorders.

Pranayama/Meditation

Three of the easiest pranayama or meditation poses you can do at home are Padam Asana, Vajra Asana, and Sukh Asana.

Once you have mastered these yoga asanas, you may move on to the more difficult postures.

So, you’ve recently made the commitment to work on becoming more physically fit and you have chosen yoga classes as your means of doing so. Well, good for you! But, before you jump in and start doing yoga poses, you’ll have to take some things into consideration. Here are the things you need to do in order to prepare for a yoga class:1. Talk to your doctor.

This is very important, especially if you haven’t engaged in exercise for a long time and if you have health issues such as osteoporosis, muscle problems, or chronic medical conditions. Your doctor may provide you with guidelines and advise you as regards any poses you might need to avoid.

2. Invest in a good yoga mat.

Some yoga classes provide you with their own mat. But, you have to remember that yoga can be quite vigorous and for sure you would want to avoid the risk of falling face-down on an old and smelly mat. Getting your own mat is a good investment, especially if you’re positive that you’ll be doing yoga for the long-term. Most of these mats sell for under $20 anyway.

3. Choose the right clothes.

Be sure to wear comfortably fitting clothes made from soft fabric. Remember that yoga often involves a lot of sweating, so you wouldn’t want to wear clothes that are too thick for comfort. Women should also prepare for yoga classes by wearing a well-fitting sports bra to make sure you are well-supported when you execute the poses.

Beyond anything else, think of yoga classes as an opportunity for you to do something nice for yourself. Therefore, the best way you can prepare yourself for class is to open to both the physical and spiritual side of yoga. Oftentimes, being mentally prepared is a lot more important than any physical preparation.

When people talk about the benefits of yoga, weight loss seldom makes the list. That is because yoga is often seen as an exercise geared towards the improvement of one’s flexibility, strength, and breathing. In recent years, however, the practice has evolved into higher intensity exercises, and a new form of yoga was developed. This new form is known as Power Yoga. What is its function?

Power Yoga involves performing postures and holding them for the time it takes to take five deep breaths.

Many of the postures will require you to hold your body’s full weight.

Therefore, this form of yoga promotes muscular strength and endurance, and helps you build more muscle mass.

The fact that the postures are done in a continuous manner also means that a greater demand is placed on your body, thus promoting higher metabolic rates.

Is there just one type?

There are actually several varieties of Power Yoga, with Ashtanga Yoga considered as the original simply because it is by far the most rigorous form of yoga and the first one developed.

This form of yoga involves the performance of linked postures that use strong breathing techniques.

Bikram Yoga is also considered another variety of this form of yoga, and what sets it apart is the fact that it is performed in a heated room, which allows you to sweat out all the harmful toxins in your body.

Of course, Power Yoga still comes with all the usual benefits attributed to yoga in general, although it places more emphasis on the physical postures.

It can help you get rid of stress and give you a general sense of well-being.

These positive mental and emotional effects have also been shown to aid in weight loss because it can provide you with much-needed motivation.

So, you’ve decided to get into yoga and take advantage of the many benefits it has to offer. It is therefore important for you to learn how to do yoga and its corresponding postures. The best way for you to start is to take heed of the following guidelines on yoga practice. When should I practice yoga?

It is best to practice yoga every single day and to set aside a time when you’re sure not to be disturbed, so you won’t have to rush through your practice.

You should also wait about two hours after having a large meal or an hour after a light meal before practicing.

Where should I practice yoga?

You should practice yoga in a room without furniture or anything that can restrict your movement.

The room should also be large enough for you to stretch upwards and sideward for the different postures.

It should be well-ventilated and comfortably heated. And if you prefer to practice outdoors, be sure to choose a shady spot where you have plenty of room to manoeuvre.

How should I practice yoga?

Yoga is usually done in bare feet. This gives you much-needed traction so as not to slip when doing standing poses and also helps to fully exercise your feet.

And part of learning how to do yoga is learning how to choose the right clothes.

You should wear clothes that are comfortable, not too warm, and allows a full range of movement. If you have long hair, then you should tie it back so it doesn’t get in the way.

As a final tip, never force your body into a particular posture nor go beyond the limits of your body’s ability.

Learning how to do yoga may be a slow process, but you’ll surely gain all the benefits as long as you do it right.

If you have taken an interest in yoga, then you have probably heard of the term “hot yoga” which is practiced in a room that is intentionally set at a certain high temperature. Hot yoga is not necessarily a new form of yoga, as it is fashioned after Bikram Yoga. This form of practice is known by yogis worldwide for its amazing healing properties. What Makes Bikram Yoga Different?

This form of yoga is a highly demanding and very specific series of 26 postures or asanas and breathing exercises. It is conducted for 90 minutes in a heated room, a requirement which sets it apart from other forms of yoga.

How Will Bikram Yoga Benefit Me?

Each asana in Bikram Yoga addresses a specific area of your body and bestows powerful health benefits on that area.

The postures also provide a gentle massaging action on your glands and internal organs, and the heat helps you flush harmful toxins out of your system by sweating it out.

Furthermore, the postures are done in a very specific order and in such a way that your body is well-prepared for the next posture.

As a result, you are able to release all tensions, and your body is put back on track and in good balance, ready to face another busy day.

By the end of the 90-minute session, you would have worked every single ligament, tendon, joint, muscle, gland, and internal organ in your body.

At the same time, fresh oxygenated blood would have been moved systematically through your body, thus restoring your bodily systems to their optimal health.

Is Bikram Yoga Good For Beginners?

The good news is that Bikram Yoga classes are designed to cater to beginners and experienced practitioners alike, which means that you can join any class you choose and still gain all the benefits this form of yoga has to offer.

What is Ashtanga Yoga and how is it done? To start with, the term “Ashtanga” literally means “eight limbs” in the ancient Indian language Sanskrit. This term pertains to the eight limbs of yoga. There are three general series in this form of yoga.Ashtanga Yoga Series

Ashtanga Yoga follows several series, the first of which is called Yoga Chikitsa or yoga therapy.

This first series aimed to detoxify your body , realign your spine and improve your stamina, strength and flexibility.

The intermediate series is called Nadi Shodana, which means purification of the nervous system.

It is aimed to cleanse and strengthen your nervous system as well as your body’s energy channels.

The advanced series is called Sthira Bhaga, which means divine stability.

It emphasizes difficult postures requiring you to balance your weight on your arms, and is therefore done only by students who have already had plenty of experience in Ashtanga Yoga.

How are Ashtanga classes conducted?

There are studios that offer Ashtanga Yoga classes with qualified teachers to lead the class and provide instruction to the students as regards the order of the postures.

As soon as a student learns the order of the postures by heart, however, he will have the option of doing a self-led practice, also known as Mysore style.

Once you are adept at Ashtanga poses, you will have the opportunity to practice at your own pace, depending on your level of ability, but still with the advice of a teacher whenever necessary.

Is Ashtanga for me?

The answer to this question lies in your own heart. Ashtanga Yoga is a vigorous and athletic form of yoga, and it usually appeals to individuals who like having a sense of order and who prefer to do things independently.

So, if you feel that you are that kind of individual, then Ashtanga is definitely for you.

In the information age, it’s tempting to be self-taught. In most cases, there’s nothing wrong with that, either. Between DVDs, books, and the internet, it’s possible to become very knowledgeable about whatever you set your mind to. As yoga classes have become more popular, this includes the various branches of yoga. Can I teach myself yoga?

If you were to ask a yoga teacher if they were really a necessary part of learning yoga, of course they’d say yes.

However, there’s a growing portion of practitioners who are self-taught, and a large number of students who want to know how to do yoga, but don’t have access to a good yoga studio.

With all of the information available out there, is there really anything a teacher can offer that a good book and enough practice can’t?

In short, yes. Yoga relies heavily on doing the right yoga asanas in the right form.

The wrong one can cause muscle strain and undue fatigue, or even tamper with the energy flow through the chakras. A book or DVD can show you how to do a pose, but it cannot show you whether or not you’re doing it correctly.

What can a yoga teacher really do for me?
